Despite localisation, the Honda CB300R carries a premium price tag
The Honda CB300R has made a comeback in the Indian two-wheeler market after it was discontinued with the BS6 emission norms came into effect. What is surprising is the fact that despite localisation cost of the 2022 Honda CB300R is significantly higher than its predecessor. The new Honda CB300R is priced at Rs 2.77 lakh (ex-showroom) whereas the BS4 Honda CB300R retailed for Rs 2.20 lakh. We do understand the added cost of making the engine BS6 compliant and input costs have risen, but the least Honda could have done was to match its previous retail price with localisation.
There have been no radical changes made to the new CB300R and that’s fine since it’s a handsome looking motorcycle. The 2022 edition features a golden USD fork, the tank extensions are darker and the exhaust muffler design has been tweaked. The LCD instrument console has been carried forward from the older bike, but now gets a gear position indicator.
Powering the 2022 Honda CB300R is a BS6-compliant 286cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor. The Japanese brand hasn’t shared the power figures but leaked documents rated the new engine at 31.13PS (30.4PS in BS4 engine). It continues to feature a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. Apart from the above mentioned changes, no updates have been made to the bikes underpinnings.
The 2022 Honda CB300R is available in two shades - Matte Steel Black and Pearl Spartan Red. It will compete against the KTM 390 Duke and the BMW G 310 R. The new Honda 300cc bike will be sold exclusively at Honda BigWing & BigWing Topline dealerships across India.
