The very first Aprilia SR 150 has rolled out from Piaggio's Baramati plant.
Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited (PVPL) yesterday started the production of the Aprilia SR 150 in India and rolled out the very first unit from its plant in Baramati. During the unveiling at the 2016 Auto Expo in February, it was announced that the SR 150 will be made in India. The scooter is going to be launched in the market on August 22, 2016, and the company has already started its bookings. The company is also giving a great offer to early buyers by keeping the introductory ex-showroom price at just Rs 65,000.
Commenting on commencement of production of the Aprilia SR 150 in India, Stefano Pelle, managing director and CEO, PVPL, said, “With the roll out of the Aprilia SR 150, it is indeed a proud moment for us here at the Piaggio group. The first India made Aprilia only reiterates our India commitment. The SR 150 is a one of its kind from the Aprilia stable, especially since this bike is customised for the Indian market and produced locally. The crossover segment in India is in its nascent stage and we are yet to see its full potential; with the Aprilia SR 150, we aim to capitalise on this opportunity. Aprilia worldwide is known for its racing heritage and we have packed some of the superbikes abilities like performance and handling in this compact SR 150.”
With this most affordable Aprilia on offer, the company aims to carve out a new category in India's booming two-wheeler market. The design of the SR 150 will appeal to the country’s young riders who are looking for the sensation of a sports bike coupled with the convenience of an automatic scooter for their daily commute. The company is promoting it as India's first crossover ‘sport-scooterbike’ with a steel frame structure, providing higher rigidity and unmatched manoeuvrability.
The SR 150 gets large 14" alloy wheels, taking design inspiration from the company's popular RSV4 supersport motorcycle range. These large tyres come covered with fat 120/70 section tubeless sport street tyres for superior grip. Other key features of the Aprilia SR 150 are a 220mm front disc brake, USB charging outlet and twin headlamp unit. Moreover, the scooter is packed with a powerful 155cc, 3-valve engine, making 11.6PS of power and a peak torque of 11.5Nm.
The Aprilia SR 150 will soon be available through Piaggio’s dealership network as well as Motoplex stores across the country in matte black and white colour options with an attractive graphic scheme.
