If you aren’t entirely convinced by the idea of spending Rs 1.16 lakh on a 125cc scooter, here are some alternatives you could consider
The Aprilia SXR125 was launched early last week to rival the Suzuki Burgman 125. The brand new scooter brings a lot to the table, however, at a premium. So if you aren’t entirely convinced by the idea of spending Rs 1.16 lakh on a 125cc scooter, you could have a look at these alternatives that make a compelling case for themselves.
TVS Apache RTR 160 4V - Rs 1,10,365
First up is the new king of the 160cc segment, the 2021 Apache RTR 160 4V. After its latest update, it has become the most powerful bike in its segment, putting it ahead of the NS160. The new tune on the motor helps it dish out 17.63PS and 14.73Nm, which complements the bike’s sharp handling capabilities. Not to mention, it’s the most feature-packed machine here with quality levels that are second to none. Overall, a brilliant option in this price bracket, and a no brainer really.
Bajaj Pulsar NS160 - Rs 1,11,834
The NS160 is essentially a downsized NS200, known for its aggressive styling, handling, and power-packed performance. The highlight of the NS160, though, has to be its handling dynamics. The perimeter frame, paired with those rather skinny tyres, makes for a nimble and agile motorcycle that turns into corners with ease. The motor also complements the chassis with plenty of grunt throughout the rev range. The only two aspects where you’ll find the NS lacking are features and design. Eh, still a lot more fun than a scooter.
Xtreme 160R 100 Million Limited Edition - Rs 1,12,340
A shocker to say the least! The Xtreme 160R impresses not only on paper but also in the real world. For one, it's one of the most affordable 160cc bikes in this segment. It looks fantastic, it’s feature-packed, and even gets a torquey motor. Not to mention, it handles really well and is extremely easy to get used to, especially for newer riders. At the same time, it offers enough excitement to keep more experienced riders engaged as well. This one’s a wholesome package and definitely worth looking at in our opinion.
Bajaj Chetak - Rs 1,15,000
Spending Rs 1,000 less could help you go green with the Chetak -- one of the best e-scooters you can get your hands on. It looks the part, comes with a truckload of features, and packs a 4.08kW (peak power) brushless DC motor that tops out at 60kmph. Its 60.3Ah lithium-ion battery can deliver a claimed range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. One can fully charge the scooter via a conventional 5A power socket in just 5 hours.

Suzuki Gixxer - Rs 1,16,700
The Gixxer costs just as much as the SXR, however, you get a lot more for your money's worth. The Suzuki Gixxer has always been a fun handling motorcycle. Thankfully, the new model, despite its polarising looks, hasn’t lost out in this aspect. The engine still packs plenty of bottom-end and mid-range grunt, which is perfect for urban use. However, the lack of top-end performance does eat into its highway capabilities. Overall, we’d say the Gixxer offers a great balance between handling, performance, and comfort.
Hero XPulse 200 - Rs 1,18,230
If none of the above two-wheelers appeal to you, you can check out the Xpulse 200, the most affordable and capable adventure tourer in this price bracket. Hero has resolved most of the performance issues that plagued the BS4 XPulse, making the BS6 iteration one heck of a motorcycle. Tour on open highways or throw it in the slush, you’ll be smiling throughout either way. And if you want to go more hardcore, just slap on the rally kit which costs just Rs 38,000 but transforms the bike into an off-road hooligan. What more can you ask for at this price?
