Ather Energy To Introduce Exchange Offers On ICE Scooters

The new offers should facilitate the easy adoption of electric vehicles

Ather Energy is a shining example of indigenious electric two-wheeler startups aiming to disprove that electric vehicles cannot be fun. Ather’s products such as the 450, the now-discontinued 340 and the new 450X have been leading the charge for electrification. The products are pricey, especially the new ones. To facilitate easy adoption of new technologies, Ather is devising plans that will allow owners of existing ICE scooters to exchange and upgrade to one of its own electric offerings.

Ather is phasing out the 450, which will be replaced by the 450 Plus. If you opt for the subscription-based plan, you can easily switch between the 450 Plus and 450X on a monthly basis, it just requires a simple OTA signal to switch between the two. The 450 Plus and the 450X cost Rs 1.49 lakh and Rs 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively, and that’s a significant ask for someone who wants to jump on to the electric bandwagon. Hence, Ather says it has devised a plan to lessen the burden on customers who already own an ICE scooter and are looking to upgrade to an electric one soon.

How is it planning to do that and how beneficial it will be to others remains unknown. Ather says it is finalising the plans with its partners for these buyback/upgrade schemes and will announce the details by the end of the month.
