Bajaj has started delivering the Chetak electric scooter to the first lot of customers in Pune and Bengaluru. While we have not received official numbers from the company yet, various sources suggest that close to 200 electric scooters have been dispatched from dealerships. Chetak sales are limited to Pune and Bengaluru for now, but Bajaj is expected to expand sales to other cities soon.
Bajaj had launched the Chetak on January 14, with online bookings starting immediately after. The scooter is available in two trims: Premium and Urbane. While the Urbane variant costs Rs 1.04 lakh, the Premium variant retails for Rs 1.19 lakh (both, on-road Pune and Bengaluru). The base Urbane variant gets a front drum brake, different colour options, and a seat cover. The Premium variant gets a front disc brake, metallic colours, better seat covers, and a free home charger.
The Chetak gets an all-metal body and features in the form of all-LED lighting and a digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. Both variants get the same powertrain - a 4kW BLDC motor and a 3kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Bajaj claims the scooter will offer a range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. It also gets regenerative braking.
The Bajaj Chetak faces competition from other electric scooters such as the TVS iQube, Ather 450X and Okinawa iPraise.
