Recognising the rising demand for the V15 by customers, Bajaj Auto has come up with a smaller sibling of the commuter bike

The V12 is the latest offering from Bajaj in the commuter bike segment. Except for a few cosmetic changes and a smaller engine, the bike looks exactly similar to the V15. The biggest mechanical change with the bike is that it now carries a new 125cc engine which is derived from the V15's 149cc engine, but with a different head geometry. The V12 is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox, which produces 10.7PS at 7500rpm of maximum power and 11Nm of peak torque at 5500rpm. It is expected for the bike to have mileage figures close to 60kmph.

It gets new 5-spoke alloy wheels with drum brakes at the front. There is no disc brake option to keep costs minimal. The V12 also gets an addition of rear grabrail, which is missed in the V15, and the front forks now come with rubber shields. The bike gets slimmer 100/90 tube tyres at the rear instead of the 120/90 tubeless offered with the V15, whereas the front tyres are the same 90/90-section tubed ones, but with a different thread pattern. There is a slight reduction in kerb weight of the V12 too. It will be available in three colours – Wine Red, Midnight Blue and Ebony Black.

Judging the rising demand the V15 is receiving from customers, despite being a 150cc commuter bike, the company might have taken the decision to launch a smaller capacity bike in the 125cc segment, which is a commuter bike’s forte. The bike is available at Rs 56,283 (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is Rs 6,000 cheaper than its bigger sibling. The bike will take on the likes of the Honda Shine, Hero Glamour and TVS Phoenix.
