Has anyone been able to topple the mighty Honda Activa?
With our cities becoming ever more congested, it’s hard to beat the sheer convenience factor of scooters. Slim enough to squeeze through small spaces, big enough to store your knick-knacks, and without any of the hassles of a gearbox. It’s no surprise then that they’re selling as well as they are. To show you just how well, these are the top 5 best-selling scooters from December 2020:
5th: Honda Dio
While its more mundane cousin might be stealing the headlines, the stylish Honda Dio is quite popular itself. Finding 22,025 new homes in December, it edged out models like the Hero Pleasure and Suzuki Burgman Street to earn a spot on this list.
4th: TVS NTorq 125
It isn’t the most comfortable or sensible scooter around, but the NTorq’s fun factor obviously resonates with a lot of people, considering 25,692 new buyers rode home the sporty TVS scooter last month, making it the 2nd most popular scooter in TVS’s lineup.
3rd: TVS Jupiter
Beating out the NTorq and claiming top dog status in the TVS scooter range is the sensible, frugal, and elegant Jupiter, powered by a 110cc air-cooled motor. The Jupiter’s practicality and spaciousness have earned it its fair share of fans, considering the scooter was bought by 38,435 people in December.
2nd: Suzuki Access 125
There was a time when 110s ruled the roost and 125s were niche luxuries. But the Indian scooter market has evolved since. The Suzuki Access 125, by virtue of its grunty motor and generous proportions, won the hearts of over 40,000 buyers last month. 40,154, to be exact, making it the 2nd most popular scooter in the country. Any guesses as to who the winner is?
1st: Honda Activa
Was there even a doubt in your mind? Of course the Honda Activa range is the best-selling scooter lineup in the country, shifting a mammoth 134,077 units in December. While we don’t have a breakup between the 110cc and 125cc versions, the combined figure is over 3 times the next best-selling scooter’s. So the Activa’s supremacy is nigh untouchable at the moment.
