Bawaria’s smallest Supersport will widen its playing field

(UPDATE: BMW has launched the G 310 RR in India. Full details in our launch story)

BMW Motorrad is all set to launch the supersport G 310 RR today. This sub-400cc segment only has a few key players competing both domestically and internationally. But, it’s a segment of importance and closing the gap in its portfolio with the upcoming supersport makes complete sense for the Bavarian bikemaker.

The TVS-BMW partnership has given the Germans two motorcycles on the 310 platform- the go-anywhere G 310 GS ADV and the more affordable G 310 R streetfighter. The new G 310 RR will likely slot right between the two, and is essentially a TVS Apache RR 310 rebadged. The German portfolio will now have a tool to take the fight to KTM in the markets where TVS isn’t as dominating.

Hence, while expect very little changes to the tuning of the engine, underpinnings, cycle parts and features, BMW’s packing game is what we are eager to see. Will we see the BTO kit with fully adjustable suspension as standard or perhaps as an accessory ‘M Sport’ package or will we see two variants as the recent teasers have suggested. We shall have our answers in just a few hours, today!

While we’ve already seen the new bike thanks to a leaked video, we are hoping for sensible pricing and a few new additions to help buyers get that BMW experience from what is already a proven motorcycle. Wondering how much it could cost? Well, check out our price analysis here. As far as the competition is concerned, the upcoming German faired bike will go up against the new KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300.
