BMW Motorrad Starts Production in Thailand

The German Auto Major BMW has officially started the production of BMW Motorrad bikes at the Rayong Assembly facility in Thailand. The facility now rolling out BMW F800R roadster motorcycle with other two bikes of the company, and the motorcycles produced at the plant will be sold only in the country in initial stage. However, sales may amplify to the other Asian countries, which will help to reduce the cost of the products by lower shipping costs.

Member of the Board of management of BMW AG production, Mr. Harald Krüger said, “The BMW Group plant Rayong is the only plant in our global production network with 28 locations in 13 countries, in which the three brands — BMW , MINI and BMW Motorrad — are finished together.”

Head of BMW Motorrad, Mr. Stephan Schaller said, “The motorcycle assembly in Rayong is another important step in the implementation of the global growth strategy of BMW Motorrad. Local production of the BMW F800R increases our market presence in Thailand. We expect to be able to significantly increase sales in this growing market in the coming years. The mid-range model now marks the beginning of a model initiative at the new location.”

BMW started to selling Motorrad bikes in Thailand in 2001, however cost is high due to shipping from Germany. Now, the company can reduce the cost of the locally produced bikes expected to be on sales by the first quarter of 2014.
