BMW’s flagship supersport is more powerful and aerodynamic than ever
The BMW S 1000 RR has made its name for being not only blisteringly quick, but also quite easy to ride. But the Bavarian bikemaker has now taken things up a notch by giving its flagship supersport a major overhaul after around three years. Here’s a lowdown on what it packs:
-
Subtle styling tweaks - sharper front and flatter rear
-
Aerodynamic winglets that seem to be lifted off the track-only M 1000 RR
-
Output from its 999cc engine stands at 209.38PS (2.72PS more than before) & 113Nm (same as before)
-
Electronics suite updated with a new Slide Control Function & Brake Slide Assist
-
Tweaked chassis for better front-end feel
-
Three new classy colour schemes: Blackstorm metallic, Racing red and Light white
These updates don’t come cheap (of course) and the S 1000 RR’s base variant is priced at Rs 20.25 lakh. The Pro and Pro M Sport variants, meanwhile, retail for Rs 22.15 lakh and Rs 24.45 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom Delhi), making it quite a lot expensive than the Rs 19.75 lakh tag that its previous base model carried. That said, you’ve to consider that the bike comes as a CBU (Completely Built Up) from Germany. Secondly, what the S 1000 RR has always brought is everyday usability, something that’s rare in this class of motorcycles. Deliveries for it will begin in February.
So, if the 2023 BMW S 1000 RR manages to do the same, it could be, dare I say it, a bargain, given it’s a fair bit cheaper than both the Honda CBR1000RR-R (Rs 23,11,292 onwards, ex-showroom Gurugram) and the Ducati Panigale V4 (26.49 lakh onwards, ex-showroom India).
