It gets the same performance and capabilities as the standard variant, sans a few features
A more affordable KTM 390 Adventure is here to give its rivals a tough competition. KTM has silently launched the 390 Adventure X in India at Rs 2,80,652. This makes it Rs 58,094 more affordable than the standard 390 Adventure priced at Rs 3,38,746 (both ex-showroom Delhi).

What’s Different?
While a lot stays the same, the new variant compromises on the fancier electronics. So, there is no traction control, no quickshifter, no ride modes, and no cornering ABS either. However, it does get switchable ABS (the rear unit can be deactivated), which should come in handy off-road. While KTM doesn't mention if the 390 Adventure gets ride-by-wire, we still think it will.
The suspension, on paper looks identical, but it gets a WP Apex open cartridge USD fork, whereas the Adventure X gets a WP Apex big piston USD fork. Both are 43mm in diameter and offer a 170mm travel.
Even the features have changed a bit. To make it more affordable, KTM has slapped on a simpler LCD console, borrowed from the 250 Adventure, in place of the 390’s TFT console. This loss, however, won’t hamper the ADV’s riding experience and is therefore an acceptable omission.
One last difference is that the Adventure X rolls on MRF MoGrip Meteor tyres, instead of the Metzeler Tourance rubbers on its 19/17-inch alloy wheels setup.
What's unchanged?
Apart from the above-mentioned bits, the rest of the bike remains completely unchanged. It gets the same smooth and potent engine – a 373cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor that produces 43.5PS and 37Nm. The motor is linked to a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch, same as the regular variant.
The rear suspension is the same too – WP Apex monoshock with 10-step preload adjustability and 177mm wheel travel, along with the braking hardware – 320mm disc up front with a radial caliper and a 230mm disc at the rear with a floating caliper.
It still comes equipped with a 12-volt socket, and comes painted in a new Galactic Blue paint scheme. The Dark Galvano colour is available with the Adventure X, too.
Rivals
With a price drop of almost Rs 60,000, the KTM 390 Adventure makes for a much more attractive package, even without the fancy tech. That’s because KTM has kept the core gene (read performance) of the 390 Adventure intact. And more importantly, it gives its rivals, the Royal Enfield Himalayan and BMW G 310 GS, a run for their money. That said, we’d have loved it had KTM thrown in a lower seat as well, considering the stock 855mm seat may be a bit too tall for some.
