The limited-edition Apache RTR 165 RP is by far the most powerful and feature-loaded motorcycle in its segment
- The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP makes 19.2PS, which is 1.65PS more than the Apache RTR 160 4V with riding modes.
- Also features adjustable levers, slipper clutch, and exclusive livery with coloured wheels.
- Is limited to only 200 units.
Shortly after the update on the trademark filings surfaced online, TVS has launched the most powerful bike in the 160+cc segment, the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP, the first bike to be launched under the new Race Performance (RP) Series. This motorcycle is priced at Rs 1,45,000 (ex-showroom pan-India). Comparatively, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V with riding modes retails at Rs 1,20,050 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the Bluetooth-enabled variant. That’s a steep premium, but the motorcycle is also limited to just 200 units, and will only be sold online via TVS’ official website.
The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP, as its name suggests, features a modified, rebored version of the Apache RTR 160 4V’s engine. The Hosur-based manufacturer has equipped the bike with a new cylinder head with a 35 percent intake increase, a twin electrode spark plug, 15 percent bigger valves with high-lift cams and dual spring actuators, a revised bore-stroke ratio of 1.37 (claims to allow the engine to rev more freely to the redline), and a new dome-shaped piston to go with the higher compression ratio. All these changes have resulted in a considerable increase in performance. Here’s a table comparing it to the Apache RTR 160 4V with Riding Modes:
This makes the Apache RTR 165 RP more powerful than the Yamaha R15 V4 by 0.8PS! In addition to being more powerful, the motorcycle also comes with adjustable brake and clutch levers, a segment-first 40mm larger (240mm) rear petal disc brake, brass-coated drive chain and sprocket (similar to the Apache RR310 BTO), an exclusive TVS Racing livery with red coloured wheels, and a red-and-black dual-tone seat. All said and done, though, it does not get multiple riding modes like the Apache RTR 160 4V does.
Nevertheless, the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is an excellent proposition for those who want exclusivity and performance. The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V was already the most powerful and feature-packed offering among its rivals including the Yamaha FZ-S Fi, Hero Xtreme 160R, Honda X-Blade, Suzuki Gixxer and Bajaj Pulsar NS160. And now, TVS has set the bar even higher with the new limited edition Apache.
That said, the price is a little too steep for what at the end of the day is a 160-odd cc naked. The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V with dual-channel ABS costs a whole Rs 6,110 less while offering slightly more performance, not to mention riding modes, and adjustable suspension. So will you go for the limited edition Apache or would you prefer the RTR 200 4V? Let us know in the comments.
