Should you shell out Rs 6,400 more for the BS6 model?
The Access 125 is Suzuki’s first BS6-compliant two-wheeler in India. Interestingly, Suzuki has kept the price hike to a minimum, at around Rs 6,400 for each variant, by skipping on a new look and some segment-first features. So, should you shell out Rs 6,400 more for a cleaner future?
Design and features:
It is quite a challenging task to differentiate between the BS4 and BS6 variant of the Access 125. Both models look exactly the same! What Suzuki could have done is tweak the design just a little bit to give it a fresh look. The updated scooters now come with a new LED headlamp and an external fuel filling cap, but apart from that, there’s nothing different between the two.
Engine and performance:
Suzuki has tweaked the motor to comply with the new stricter emission norms. This new fuel-injected 124cc powerplant makes 8.7PS at 6750rpm and 10Nm at 5500rpm. For perspective, the BS4 model makes 8.7PS at 7000rpm and 10.2Nm at 5000rpm. There could be a minor difference between the BS4 and the BS6 variant’s fuel-efficiency figures, but we will confirm this once we get our hands on the scooter.
Ride and handling:
Well, we don’t think the BS6 Access 125 will feel any different from its predecessor as the underpinnings are the same. You get the same suspension setup, same frame and even the braking hardware is the same. However, the BS6 version is 2-3kg heavier than the older model, which shouldn’t affect the handling to that extent.

Should you buy one?
Well, Suzuki isn’t charging a bomb like Vespa and Aprilia. And unlike the Italians, the BS6 Access 125 at least has something new to offer. Moreover, the price increment is around Rs 6,400, which we think is quite reasonable for one of the most potent 125cc scooters out there. So, we would opt for the BS6-compliant scooter, which gets a USB port, a new LED headlamp, and a future-proof engine.
