Remember Cleveland Cyclewerks, the American two-wheeler company that magically appeared in India back in 2018 with the Ace and Misfit? Well, it’s planning to make a comeback overseas. From the looks of it, the brand's failed attempt in the 250cc neo-retro segment and its abrupt departure from India seems to have pushed it to look at other viable options. And at the moment, going electric seems to be the answer.
Introducing the Falcon Electric Motorcycle. The bike which still looks like a pre-production model will be available in two variants: the toned down Falcon 01 and the full-blown Falcon BLK. The two variants are being built in the company's hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where it has also set up most of its supplier base. The Falcon 01 will be priced at $7,999 (Rs 6.11 lakh), positioning it below the Zero FXS electric motorcycle's base model. As for the premium Falcon BLK, it'll be limited to 20 units, each of which will set you back by $14,995 (Rs 11.45 lakh).
The lower specced Falcon 01 comes with two ride modes -- E-bike and E-moped, with a restricted top speed of 32kmph and 43kmph respectively. And if you want to unleash the untapped potential of the bike’s 6kW motor, you can opt for the third mode which tops out at 105kmph (claimed).
The Falcon 01 gets a single 2.3kWh swappable battery as standard which can be upgraded to two packs for a total of 4.6kWh. A single pack offers a claimed range of 80km per charger, which is most likely achieved in E-bike mode -- the slower of the two modes.
Much like the Falcon 01, the Falcon BLK also features the same ride modes. However, it packs a 12kW electric motor, which when unleashed in the unrestricted mode delivers a claimed top speed of over 137kmph. The motor draws power from two swappable battery packs from Samsung which offers a range of 160km on a single charge. Let’s be honest though, this figure is most likely possible only in E-bike mode. The Falcon BLK comes with Lumilor Electroluminescent Visibility elements on either side of the battery enclosure and an Angry Pixy mode that provides a 20-second power boost.
A high-power Level 1 charger comes as part of the standard equipment, which is capable of charging one or two battery packs at the same time. According to Cleveland Cyclewerks, these batteries can be charged completely in 90 minutes or up to 80 per cent in 45 minutes.
In terms of hardware, both bikes come equipped with a wishbone frame, an inverted front fork, and a rear hydraulic monoshock. A mid-mounted motor also ensures a lower centre of gravity. Other notable bits include CARD dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes which can be upgraded to Sphere hemispherical brakes. The latter offers a larger braking surface area with less rotating mass. Here, the brake pads last longer as regenerative braking on an electric motorcycle helps to reduce the frequency of brake pad changes.
Both motorcycles come with 17-inch cast aluminium wheels, however, the Falcon BLK includes aero wheel disks which adds to its premium feel.
