The renowned sportbike manufacturer - Kawasaki is all-set to bring the middleweight sports tourer Versys 650 in India soon. Some recent reports suggest that the bike will arrive in the nation next month and will share its design philosophy with its elder sibling - Versys 1000. The bike was imported to India earlier this year for R&D purposes and finally, it seems that the company sees this as the right time to launch the bike.
Kawasaki Versys 650 will get all the major elements like Versys 1000. The middleweight tourer will receive sporty twin headlamps, adjustable windshield, raised handlebars along with comfortable touring-oriented well padded seating. The company already sells Ninja 650 in this segment but the launch of Versys 650 will fill up the space of a middleweight touring machine quite effectively.
Talking of mechanicals, the Versys 650 will come powered by the same mill that empowers Ninja 650. The 649cc, liquid-cooled motor churns out a net power of 68.1bhp at 8,500rpm along with a maximum torque of 64Nm at 7,000rpm. For carrying out suspension duties effectively, the bike has been assisted with Upside down forks up front along with a rear offset mono shock absorber. For responsive and efficient braking, the bike will be equipped with dual petal disc brakes at the front and a single petal disc brake at the rear. In order to keep the pricing low and competitive, Kawasaki won’t be giving an ABS with the bike, the reports suggest.
Once launched, the Versys 650 will directly rival the Benelli TNT 600 GT. Kawasaki will hopefully keep the pricing somewhere around Rs. 6 lac (ex-showroom) and will bring the bike in two colours - Black and Green. Earlier, some reports also claimed that the company is also working on a quarter-litre version of Versys which also seems to be breaking cover next month. Stay tuned and watch this space to get more updates about the launch.
