EICMA 2022: Here's Your First Look At The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650!

Royal Enfield’s most expensive cruiser looks properly highway-worthy with premium underpinnings

More than two years after it was first spotted, pictures of the Super Meteor 650 are out. This twin cylinder motorcycle gets quite the cruiser-styling with a raked out front end, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, easy-to-reach handlebars and forward-set footpegs. The retro ambitions are further accentuated by the round headlight and tail light, instrument console, mirrors, indicators. 

The Super Meteor 650 is suspended on a 43mm USD fork, a first for a Royal Enfield bike, with a twin-shock absorber setup taking care of the rear. There's 120mm of suspension travel up front and 101mm wheel travel at the rear. Unlike the 650 twins, the Super Meteor does not get gas-charged shock absorbers but is still preload-adjustable. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm disc up front and a 300mm (larger than the one on the 650 twins) one at the rear. Dual-channel ABS will be standard. 

At its heart is the same 648cc twin-cylinder thumper as the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. That said, it makes 47PS and 52.3Nm, against the 650 twins' 47.45PS and 52Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission along with a slip-assist clutch.

The cruiser rides on a 19- and 16-inch alloy wheel setup (F/R respectively) and comes shod with tubeless CEAT Zoom Cruze tyres measuring 100-section up front and 150-section at the rear. Its twin-pod semi-digital instrument cluster features smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation like the one on the Royal Enfield Meteor 350. The switchgear is an old-school rotary style one, similar to the one on the other J-platform bikes but is a cast aluminium unit, a first from the company 

Tipping the scales at 241kg, the Super Meteor 650 is a colossal 39kg heavier than the Interceptor 650. That said, its 740mm seat height sounds quite accessible for riders of all heights and is lower than the Meteor 350’s by 25mm. The 15.7-litre fuel tank on the Super Meteor 650 is also larger than the Interceptor 650's 13.7-litre one. 

This cruiser is available in two variants: standard and touring. The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is likely to make its official India debut at the Rider Mania 2022 and will be launched in India in January 2023. Summing up, the feature-laden, premium-looking Super Meteor is a good example of how the highway-worthy 650cc platform can be utilised properly. With the Harley-Davidson Street 750 gone, the Super Meteor 650 ooks to fill the massive void, offering a premium cruiser experience to the masses. The only other alternative in its segment is the Kawasaki Vulcan S.
