Could this be a new ADV from the bikemaker? Here’s what we think
[UPDATE: Bajaj has launched the Pulsar P150 in India. Full details in our launch story]
Bajaj Auto has filed a trademark for a new name- Bajaj Darkstar in September 2022. The application’s status is ‘Formalities Check Pass’, which means that the application is filed correctly and the Indian Trademark Registry has authenticated it.
While it’s too soon to talk about it, there have been rumours of Bajaj prepping an ADV for the Indian market. We feel that the Darkstar could be an ADV based on the 250cc engine that we’ve seen on the Pulsar N250 and Pulsar F250. The new 250cc engine was the highlight of the bikes when we rode them last year and its sprightly acceleration and tractable nature does make it apt to be on an ADV platform.

Even if Bajaj decides to go the ADV way with the Darkstar, we feel that it won’t be on the lines of the Hero XPulse 200 4V. It’ll instead, likely have a 19- and 17-inch wheel setup instead of an out and out hardcore adventure bike, to eat into the market share of something like the Royal Enfield Scram 411.
Bajaj could also give the Darkstar a blacked-out treatment, in line with its moniker. All these are hopes and speculations though, and only time will tell us what Bajaj’s intentions are with the Darkstar. In related news, we finally got a chance to ride the Bajaj Chetak. Here’s everything we liked and disliked about the electric scooter.
