EXCLUSIVE: Jawa BS6, Jawa 42 BS6 India Launch Details Revealed

The BS6-compliant motorcycles will be launched real soon

• The two motorcycles are expected to command a marginal premium as the engines were already BS6-ready.
• At present, the Jawa is priced from Rs 1.64 lakh and the Jawa Forty Two will set you back by Rs 1.55 lakh, both ex-Delhi. 
• The Jawa Perak bobber is already BS6-compliant.

Our sources have revealed that Jawa will be launching the BS6-compliant version of the standard Jawa as well as the Jawa Forty Two soon. Jawa had already revealed earlier that its current fuel-injected engines are BS6-ready, meaning they only require minimal updates to make them BS6-compliant. Consequently, the Jawa BS6, as well as the Jawa Forty Two BS6, are likely to command a marginal premium of around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 over the BS4-compliant counterparts. There's no official confirmation from Jawa yet. 

To give you a perspective, the standard Jawa costs Rs 1,64,300 for the single-channel ABS variant and Rs 1,73,242 for the dual-channel ABS model. On the other hand, the Jawa Forty Two single-channel ABS version will set you back by Rs 1,55,300 and Rs 1,64,242 for the dual-channel ABS bike. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi. Both the single-channel as well as the dual-channel ABS variants are expected to get the BS6 update.

The BS4-compliant Jawa and Jawa Forty Two share a 293cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder motor which churns out 27.3PS and 28Nm. Expect the BS6-compliant models to retain these figures. This deduction is made considering the fact that the BS4-compliant Perak shown in 2018 and the BS6-compliant Perak launched last year retained the same power and torque figures (30.4PS and 31Nm). That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if the BS6 motor makes slightly less power or torque than the BS4 mill as that seems to be the norm for most BS6-compliant versions of existing motorcycles. Both motorcycles will retain the 6-speed transmission that’s offered currently.

Expect Jawa to keep the underpinnings untouched. This includes telescopic front forks, twin gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear, 280mm disc up front and a 153mm drum or a disc at the rear.
