It seems that the long lived Hero and Honda relation is not going to disappear completely even after the official departure of both the partners. If the new update is believed, Hero will use the 110cc engine of Honda's Honda Cb Twister in the former's new bike.
As Hero had already made announcement to launch entry-level commuter and semi-sports bike models in India. This 110cc engine might be of Honda Twister which has been well tested and getting popularity in the market due to its fuel economy and better performance.
This engine of Twister is a 109cc, Four Stroke, Air-Cooled, SI petrol with four speed manual transmission (with 1-Down, 3-Up gearshift pattern) that can produce maximum power of 9bhp at 8000rpm with 9Nm of maximum torque at 6000rpm; it has also proved fuel efficient in the segment.
On the other hand, Hero is also planning to enter in Scooter segment and might use the engine of Honda Activa which is also a 110cc. On account of better performance of Honda Activa, the Indian scooter market is dominated by it. This 109cc engine of the Activa is 4 stroke, single cylinder, air cooled, OHC that can develop a peak power of 8 bhp at 7500 rpm and generates 0.9 kg-m at 5500 rpm through v-matic transmission.
Presently, all the engines used in the Hero Honda bikes are developed with Japanese technology; these bikes are Hero Honda Splendor, Hero Honda Passion, Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme. Although Honda to give license to Hero for production of engine but in the starting Hero might use Honda's popular engines in its bikes.
Meanwhile Hero is also reported to launch a cruiser bike with engine capacity of 250cc and for this bike Hero would get the engine of Honda CBR 250R. Using this 250cc engine in Hero Cruiser bikes, the company might challenge Bajaj Avenger 220.
