The bigger XPulse that was spied on is reportedly powered by a 421cc engine and the Xtreme 400S has also been spotted alongside
UPDATE: One of these bikes is actually the Karizma XMR 210. Check out more about this iconic bike here.
The Hero XPulse 400 has been spotted again and this time around, quite a few interesting details have come to the fore. Going by the images, it is evident that there are two variants of the bike which are under development. One is an off-road-centric ADV with block pattern tyres, whereas the other rolls on street-oriented rubber. The off-road-biased ADV also features slightly shorter fairing, whereas the tourer comes with panels extending just above the engine crankcase.
Another important observation to note is that the XPulse 400 will reportedly be powered by a 421cc single-cylinder engine. We’d already mentioned earlier that the bike will not be powered by the same 450cc engine as in the Dakar-based ADV prototype that was shown back in February 2020, but by something slightly smaller (yet over 400cc), and the recent development corroborates the same. So in terms of performance, this will put the XPulse 400 squarely against the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
As expected from a premium 400-odd cc ADV, the two variants get inverted fork, rear monoshock, petal discs at both ends with a radial caliper up front, larger front and smaller rear spoke wheels (likely to be 21- and 17-inch combo). The swingarm is a box-section unit on both variants. The name Hero XPulse 400 also goes well with the bikemaker’s nomenclature as the smaller bike is called the XPulse 200. The road-biased variant will likely have the Tourer suffix.
Interestingly, the Hero Xtreme 400S has also been spotted alongside the ADV. The heavily camouflaged bike will share the same engine as the XPulse 400 which will be tuned differently (we hope). It also gets premium underpinnings in the form of an inverted fork, rear monoshock and petal discs with a radial front caliper and 17-inch alloys with road-biased tyres. The bike gets clip-on handlebars but the ergonomics isn’t as aggressive, making it more of a sporty tourer than an out-and-out track tamer.

Apart from the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, the Hero XPulse 400 will go up against the KTM 390 Adventure, whereas the Xtreme 400S will rival the TVS Apache RR 310, BMW G 310 RR and the KTM RC 390. Expect Hero to unveil the production-ready prototypes of both bikes at this year’s EICMA in Milan, Italy in November. These bikes will also help Hero gain a stronger foothold in the global market as the 300-500cc category is witnessing a huge surge in popularity of late.
