Established with independent identity after the termination of its joint venture with Hero Group, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) has recently declared that its highly appreciated bike Honda Unicorn is lagging behind the demand and therefore its waiting period has been more than six months. Launched in the year 2005 Honda Unicorn was the first bike which was equipped with Mono Shock suspension from the back side, and this feature played an important role in huge success of Honda Unicorn in the country. Within the short period of its launch Honda Unicorn occupied the position of the most desirable means of commuting in the urban areas.
The chief contenders of Honda Unicorn at the time of its launch was Bajaj Pulsar from Bajaj Auto Ltd, but in the later year TVS Apache RTR from TVS Motors also joined the war of supremacy. The rumour of long waiting period for Honda Unicorn was also confirmed by an authentic source of HMSI who claimed that as the result of unpredicted demand of Unicorn the waiting period has raised to six months. The sources further added that the company has not stopped the production its going at the same pace, only the waiting period has increased. The sources hoped that situation will improve in next six months.
With an objective of increasing the production, HMSI after setting up its manufacturing set up at Gurgaon with production capacity of 16 lakhs units per year has recently set up its another production unit at Tapukara in Rajastha with annual production capacity of 12 lakh units per year, besides this there are reports that company to increase the production capacity of its new plant company is speculating to make an additional investment of Rs. 800 crore more.
However it’s not that only Honda Unicorn is facing the problem of waiting period. HMSI’s Honda Activa and Honda CB Dazzler as also lagging behind the demand and have the waiting period varying between four to six months. From the very beginning HMSI is recognized for delaying in supply of its product. Let us hope that it will soon come up from this situation and shall be able to meet the demand of the customers on scheduled time.
