Honda Activa

Despite many other companies offering a good number of options in the scooter segment, Honda Activa still leads the pack and has recorded over 2.1 lac unit sales in January 2016. This is the fifth time in 2015-16 fiscal, after June, July, August and October, that Activa has been at the top of the table for monthly sales. With continuous rising traffic of cities, gearless scooters are coming in handy for the customers as they provide ease and comfort of ride in heavy traffic. SIAM data for the month of January suggests that the market share of scooters in the country has grown immensely over the past few months. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd (HMSI) has lost the ‘largest two-wheeler manufacturer’ tag to Hero MotoCorp but, it still holds the top spot in scooter segment with around 56% of the market share followed by Hero MotoCorp sharing 20% in scooter sales.

Honda Activa

Hero MotoCorp’s in-house developed 110cc products, Duet and Maestro Edge have certainly affected the sales of Activa but still the sales of this scooter are on an all time high. As compared to over 2.1 lac Activas sold in January this year, the company had sold close to 1.98 lac units in the corresponding month last year. Total sales of Maestro Edge touched 48,000 units in January 2016. With around 30% of market share in the Indian two-wheeler market, Honda is now aiming to take this number to 35% soon. While Honda leads the scooter segment with its iconic Activa, Hero is presently the top motorcycle seller in the country and is also aiming to increase its share in the scooter market. Now, Honda might have to rethink about some updates for Activa as Edge is coming with latest features and fresh looks, which can soon outcast the old Activa.

Honda NAVi

Honda is planning to increase production of its products and has started a new manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The company has also brought an all new concept to the two-wheeler world with the launch of its moto-scooter, NAVi. This crossover of scooter and motorcycle is priced at Rs. 39,500 and will be available for sale from April 2016. The bookings for NAVi have already begun and have crossed the 8,000 mark within a month’s time.
