Hero Splendor’s sales are down by 50 per cent!
- Honda sold 2.43 lakh units of the Activa last month.
- During the same time, Hero Splendor clocked in just 1.78 lakh units.
- Honda will launch the BS6-compliant Activa 125 in the coming few weeks.
Till now, 2019 has not been a great year for two-wheeler manufacturers and especially Honda, whose scooter sales suffered quite a lot in this downturn. However, the Japanese bike maker can breathe a sigh of relief as its star child, the Activa, has beaten the Hero Splendor to become the highest selling two-wheeler in India.
While Hero sold 1.78 lakh units of the Splendor in the month of July, Honda sold more than 2.43 lakh units in the same time frame. However, in the same time last year, Honda sold around 2.86 lakh units. Even Hero MotoCorp has been hit pretty badly in these testing times. Last year during July, Splendor’s sales stood at 2.6 lakh, whereas this year, it stood at 1.3 lakh! That’s a decline of 50 per cent!
One of the reasons why the Activa range has performed fairly could be due to the various offers that Honda dealers are offering. Moreover, the Activa 5G recently got a slight update in the form of two limited edition variants. The Splendor, on the other hand, hasn’t received any update from its maker for quite some time now.
In other news, Honda will launch its first BS6 compliant scooter, the 2019 Activa 125, in the coming few weeks. Now, we have already got our hands on the spec sheet and here’s how the new Activa 125 stacks up against the previous model.
