The new-gen Africa Twin is lighter and more powerful than before!

  • The new 1084cc motor is Euro 5/BS6 compliant.
  • It gets a major cosmetic update.
  • Expected to be priced around Rs 15 lakh.

Honda will launch the new CRF1100L Africa Twin in India tomorrow. Expect the upcoming motorcycle to get a price increment of around Rs 1.5 lakh over the previous iteration, which was priced at Rs 13.5 lakh (ex-showroom). We believe Honda is likely to bring the DCT version to our shores.

The Japanese bike maker has done more than just update the motor to meet the new Euro 5/BS6 emission norms. First off, it has increased the capacity of the motor from 998cc to 1084cc. And now, the power output is 102PS and 105Nm, making it 7PS and 7Nm more powerful than before.

At 236kg (the DCT variant), the new-gen Africa Twin is 6kg lighter than before, which should make it easier to handle. However, the seat height has gone up from 820mm-840mm to 850mm-870mm. So if you have a shorter frame, you might find it difficult to put your feet down.

In terms of rider aids, it comes with HSTC (Honda Selectable Torque Control), cornering ABS, wheelie control, and rear lift control. And if you get bored during one of your off-road adventures, there’s a new 6.5-inch TFT display with Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity onboard to keep you busy.

The upcoming all-new Africa Twin will rival the BMW F 850 GS, the Ducati Multistrada 950, and the new Triumph Tiger 900, which will be the only other BS6-compliant motorcycle in this segment when launched next month.
