The Philippines-spec Dio is similar to the BS4-compliant version sold here before

  • The Dio is powered by a 109cc carbureted engine, good for 8PS and 8.91Nm.
  • Uses a bottom link front suspension and a single rear shock absorber like the India-spec BS4 version.
  • It’s priced at an equivalent of Rs 76,582.

Honda Philippines has launched the 2021 Honda Dio in the country at PHP 49,900, which is around Rs 76,582. Interestingly, this scooter is the BS4-compliant version that was once sold in India. Currently, the India-spec Honda Dio has got an all-new design complete with a brand new engine and underpinnings.

The one sold in the Philippines is powered by a 109cc air-cooled single-cylinder carbureted engine, churning out 8PS at 7500rpm and 8.91Nm at 5000rpm. Comparatively, the BS6 Honda Dio makes 7.76PS and 9Nm. Honda claims the scooter can offer a mileage of 58.3kmpl at a constant speed of 40kmph. That’s pretty good for a scooter of its class.

The scooter is suspended on a long-in-the-tooth bottom link front suspension and a rear monoshock. Its 10-inch steel rims with tubeless tyres come to a halt using drum brakes at both ends, with CBS as standard. On the other hand, the India-spec version comes with a more modern telescopic front fork and a larger 12-inch wheel up front.

The scooter features an all-LED headlamp with LED DRL, analogue instrument cluster, an apron-mounted hook and a retractable hook below the seat, and an apron-mounted seat opening switch. The 14.4-litre underseat storage is average at best. Unlike the Indian Dio, this one comes with an underseat fuel tank cap.

The 765mm-high seat can be easily accessed even by shorter riders, and the 104kg kerb weight should be fairly manageable too. Honda offers the new Dio in three colours: Candy Jazzy Blue, Sports Red, and Vibrant Orange.

In April, Honda announced India as its new export hub. Interestingly, the Honda Dio is the brand’s most exported model. The company exports its two-wheelers to 35 markets across Europe, Central and Latin America, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Japan, and the SAARC nations. Its Filipino market is a little more mature than ours. Apart from the Dio, Honda also sells the more premium maxi-scooters there, including the AirBlade 150, PCX 160, and even the mildly off-road- friendly Honda ADV 150.
