Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is getting better day by day since it launched its first scooter Activa in the Indian market, way back in 2000. At present, they have three scooters in India, Honda Activa, Aviator and Dio, all three are known for their comfortable ride and frugal 110cc engine. After parting their ways with their 2 decade old partners Hero MotoCorp, Honda is using aggressive strategies to expand its business in India. After introducing its Honda Dream Yuga recently into the mass market segment, Honda is now planning to add a more powerful and premium scooter in its Indian portfolio. There are reports that confirms that Honda will introduce a new scooter by mid-2013, which will be more powerful, stylish and performance oriented. This scooter is most likely the PCX150.
The Honda PCX150 comes equipped with a 150cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine mated to a V-Matic CVT automatic transmission. The scooter returns an impressive fuel economy of 43 km/l. The PCX150 weighs around 128kgs, making it a heavy bike to handle. This scooter has a fuel tank capacity of 6-litre, that is the biggest reason behind its massive 25-litre underseat storage capacity. The scooter boasts of 14-inch wheels with tubeless IRC 90/90 front and 100/90 rear tires and a single disc with three-piston caliper in front and drum rear brake linked with Honda’s Combined Braking System.
Honda PCX150 has got a lot of features and it is well-equipped, which make it a perfect premium scooter. The Honda PCX150 is expected to be manufactured locally at Honda’s factory at Manesar, Gurgaon in order to keep the cost under check. However, the scooter is expected to boast a expensive price tag somewhere around Rs. 75000. Along with this premium scooter, Honda is also planning to launch newly developed Honda CBR500R bike in India.
Honda is performing very well in the domestic market, the company has reported a 40.64 percent increase in total sales during the festive month October with 250,066 units. In the sales figure a massive chunk is of scooter sales, Honda sold 1,28,774 units in October 2012. Piaggio Vespa is ruling the premium scooter segment as it is the only scooter in that segment and Honda wants to rival Vespa LX 125 with the PCX150.
