Honda To Launch New Scooters In India

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HSMI) which is 100 per cent subsidiary of Japan based Honda Motors is to launch more scooters in India. Already Indian scooter market is dominated by Honda Activa and Honda Aviator. Both the scooters are steps ahead to Hero Honda Pleasure, Mahindra Duro, Rodeo and TVS Wego which are another popular scooters in India.

 

The company has also targeted to be numero uno in the Indian two-wheeler market in a decade. To achieve this target, the company has already announced to launch a 100cc bike against Hero Honda Splendor, Hero Hero Passion Pro which are the most selling entry-level commuter bikes in India. Its Honda Twister is also pushing the sales growth of the company.

 

At present, the demand for gearless scooters is increasing manifold thus by launching new scooters, Honda wants to be number one two-wheeler maker in the scooter segment. As per official reports the company is reporting 40 per cent growth in scooter segment and 60 per cent growth in motorcycle segment. And the demand for scooters will increase in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

 

The company also willing to ramp-up its dealership network in rural areas and is planning to add 100 more dealerships counters; it has 1,200 dealerships across the country. HMSI aims to sell 21 lakh units of two-wheelers in year 2011-12 as compared to 16.5 lakh units in 2010-11. Honda is also targeting to export 1.7 lakh in 2012 as against 1 lakh units this year.

 

To add wings to the two-wheeler production, the company is going to start second facility at Tapukara in Rajasthan in July this year with expected production capacity of 6 lakh units in first phase while 12 lakh units of the two wheelers will be produced in second phase. And the total investment will be Rs. 1,000 crore in the plant.

 

On the other hand, HMSI has recently launched word's first light weight sports bike- Honda CBR 250R in India. The bike is available in two variants such as Non-ABS with Rs. 1.43 Lakh and ABS with price tag of Rs. 1.68 Lakh. In the month of April, the bike will be available at 400 exclusive dealerships across India. And the company is planning to sell 30,000 units in the first fiscal.
