The electric moped gets its off-road game on
Honda’s Chinese arm, Wuyang Honda, has launched the U-be Cross electric moped in its home market. The standard U-be was first launched in China in 2021, and now it gets off road friendly hardware in the form of the Cross model. Check it out here in some detailed images.
In terms of appearance, the U-be Cross gets the same design with minimal styling as the standard model, but with sportier graphics and colour schemes. It also features a funky-looking fascia-mounted angular LED headlight. It is a single seater, with the rear wheel extending outwards.
The Honda U-be is powered by a BLDC hub motor that produces a continuous power of 350 watts and can achieve a top speed of 25kmph. The electric motor is connected to a 48V24Ah (1.2 kWh) lithium-ion battery pack, which offers a range of 80km on a single charge.

Underpinnings of the U-be include a telescopic fork with gators at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. It gets a disc brake up front and a drum brake at the rear. The moped likely rolls on the same 10-inch wheels as the standard U-be; however, it sports all terrain block-pattern tyres. The moped tips the scales at 54 kg kerb weight.
In terms of features, the U-be comes packed with a colour LCD digital cluster that indicates speed, battery charge percentage, motor temperature and an odometer. It also features all-LED lighting and a USB charging socket.
The Honda U-be is priced at 5,090 Yuan, an equivalent of Rs 59,000 (without Indian taxes and duties), which certainly makes it a value-for-money product. However, the moped will not be heading to our shores anytime soon. A similar offering in India would be the BGauss A2, and you can also check out low speed EVs like the Hero Electric Eddy and the Detel EasyPlus.
