Honda has filed design patents with the European Patent Institute for an electric motorcycle. The upcoming motorcycle appears to use the CB150R ExMotion’s neo-retro bodywork and underpinnings and is powered by two battery packs.

While Honda has not revealed technical details about the motor, it gets an oil cooler that sits in place of the radiator. The motor sends power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. Honda could use parts from its PCX electric scooter in the same way that it has used underpinnings from the 150cc motorcycle. Power comes from a large primary battery inside the dummy fuel tank and a secondary battery under the rider’s seat. We are unsure about this placement as having a battery pack mounted that high will affect the motorcycle’s centre of gravity.

The electric Honda appears to be in the design stages. Having a ready rolling chassis could substantially cut development times. That said, it could be a good year and a half to two years before we see the electric bike reach showrooms.
