Planning to add the baby Svartpilen to your list? Well, here’s every teeny tiny detail to help you to make an informed decision
Swedish bike maker, Husqvarna has finally entered the Indian two-wheeler segment with two 250cc motorcycles - the Svartpilen 250 and the Vitpilen 250. Both motorcycles were showcased at the 2019 India Bike Week where we also got to see the KTM 390 ADV. The Husqvarna duo is positioned as premium motorcycles in the 250cc segment. So, if you’re planning to get the Svartpilen 250, which is the affordable variant of the two, here’s everything you need to know:
Same design as the 401:
For now, Husqvarna hasn’t revealed the entire spec sheet so we don’t know the difference in size between the 250s and the 401s. However, at first look, the Svartpilen 250 looks quite similar to its bigger cousin. You get the same matte paint finish and even the overall stance is a lot like the Svartpilen 401. Being a cafe racer, it comes equipped with raised handlebars and a tank rack while the footpegs are slightly forward set compared to the Vitpilen 250.
Same engine as the KTM 250 Duke:
Now, this shouldn’t come as a surprise -- Husqvarna is using the same unit as its Austrian cousin. The 248.8cc single-cylinder fuel-injected liquid-cooled engine is the same across the range. It has similar power figures (31.4PS/24Nm) and even the bore and stroke numbers are the same, at 72mm and 61.1mm respectively. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 6-speed gearbox. But whether the Huskies are equipped with a slipper clutch like its Austrian counterpart is yet to be known.
Gets the same cycle parts as well:
The Svartpilen 250 comes equipped with a WP-sourced inverted fork at the front with 142mm of travel and a monoshock with 150mm of travel. Braking hardware consists of 320mm front disc with a radial caliper and 230mm disc at the rear. Dual-channel ABS is offered as a standard fitment in both bikes.
So, what’s different between the Svartpilen 250 and the Vitpilen 250?
Well, not much. Apart from the slightly altered ergonomics to suit their respective character, different tyres and alloy wheel design, both bikes are identical.
When will it officially launch?
The Svartpilen 250, as well as the Vitpilen 250, will go on sale by the end of February next year. And as far as the price is concerned, the Svartpilen 250 can retail around Rs 2.3 lakh (ex-showroom). Now, you may be wondering where Husqvarna will sell these motorcycles? Well, the Swedish bike maker will sell its motorcycles via KTM dealerships across the country.
