The Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401 are likely to be launched by the end of December or early-January 2021
- The bike looks near production-ready.
- Features a crucial change compared to the 250cc model.
- Powered by the same 373cc single-cylinder engine seen on the 390 Duke.
- Both motorcycles will be manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan factory.
Back in September, we’d spoken about Husqvarna’s plans of introducing the larger Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401s in India. These bikes are likely to be launched by the end of December or by early-January 2021. The Swedish bikemaker has been testing its 401 siblings in India and they’ve been spotted on several occasions. While the earlier test mules looked identical to the 250cc models, the most recent image uncovers certain changes that make the Svartpilen 401 indistinguishable from the international-spec bike.
The latest spy shot showcases the Svartpilen 401 with spoked wheels. The same can be expected from the Vitpilen 401. Husqvarna may also introduce new paint options similar to the international models to help distinguish the Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401 from their 250cc siblings. The overall design though will remain unchanged.

In the international market, the Svartpilen 401 makes 43.5PS and 37Nm using a 373cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine -- same as the India-spec BS6 KTM 390 Duke. So we could expect identical performance from the upcoming Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401. Don't expect any change in hardware either. The Huskies will come with the same 43mm open cartridge WP USD fork, WP rear monoshock, 320mm front and 230mm rear disc seen on the 390 Duke. Of course, dual-channel ABS will be offered as standard.
All in all, the test mule looks pretty much production-ready and ready for launch. Both motorcycles will be manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan factory. Expect Husqvarna to price the 401 twins at around Rs 2.3 lakh (ex-showroom). The 401 siblings will go up against the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, the BMW G 310 R, G 310 GS, and the KTM 390 Duke.
