Differences in actual and claimed power figures is something that is not a new thing in automotive world. Many a times, the manufacturers show the untrue figures for one reason or the other. Recently, it was the renowned Japanese manufacturer - Kawasaki whose name has popped out in such a controversy. Due to this reason, the company will now release the upcoming version of the bike with power detuned by 10bhp in order to match the claimed power figure.
As per reports, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R comes with a claimed power of around 200bhp. Contrary to this, the tests conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revealed that the supersports machine unleashes 210bhp of peak power, which was 10hp more than the stated figure. However, the extra power didn’t have any ill-effects on the environment but the difference in claimed and actual power is what led to some discrepancy.
For this reason, Kawasaki decided to bring the power down to 199.9bhp of peak value so that it remain in sync with the claimed figure. The ZX-14R presently comes with a mammoth 1,441cc motor that has an oxidising catalytic converter. The 2016 model will arrive with the same displacement but instead of the above stated unit, a three-way catalytic converter would be used. This will eventually result in a decreased power output. Moreover, the 2016 model will also meet the strict Euro-VI emission norms that will ease out on carbon monoxide emissions.
Being a responsible publication, we believe that proper steps must be followed worldwide to keep a check on such differences in figures, for the simple reason that these things fall under misguiding the buyer. With the reduced power, expect the bike to come with slightly less amount of action and fun. Stay tuned for more updates!
