Here’s all you need to know about KTM’s upcoming entry-level adventure motorcycle
While the KTM 390 ADV might be in the news for the time being, it seems like there’s another small adventure motorcycle coming our way that might just be as popular as the 390 Adventure. Yes, we are talking about the KTM 250 ADV. The upcoming ADV has already been spotted in India a couple of times, but now, KTM has officially revealed the 250 Adventure which is expected to come to our shores by the end of the year. So, if you are planning to add KTM’s latest entry-level ADV to your garage, here’s some things you should know:
Same engine as the 250 Duke:
The 390 Adventure, which is powered by the same engine as the 390 Duke, was expected to receive a different state of tune to suit its adventure tourer character. However, KTM decided to leave it untouched. Hence, we expect the 250 Adventure to sport the same tuning as its streetfighter sibling, the 250 Duke. The 250 Duke is powered by a 248.8cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that produces 29.91PS and 24Nm of peak torque, paired with a 6-speed transmission.
Different underpinnings compared to the 250 Duke:
While the trellis frame remains similar to the 250 Duke, the suspension and braking hardware has been tweaked. For instance, it gets a 43mm inverted fork at the front and a monoshock from WP Apex. While the front gets 170mm of travel, the rear gets 177mm of travel. To put things into perspective, the 250 Duke offers 142mm of travel at the front and 150mm of travel at the rear. Instead of using the 250 Duke’s braking setup, KTM has equipped the 250 Adventure with the same setup as the 390 Adventure - 320mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear.
Won’t be as feature-rich as the 390 Adventure:
The 390 ADV is kitted up to the brim. It gets a fully digital instrument cluster, LED lights, traction control and adjustable suspension. The 250 Adventure, on the other hand, gets a fully digital instrument cluster… and that’s about it. The idea behind the 250 ADV was to make it an affordable adventure motorcycle in the model lineup, whereas the 390 ADV will be the top-spec, fully kitted motorcycle in the portfolio.
Design:
Thanks to the raised suspension and windscreen, the 250 ADV has received a new personality altogether. Just like the 390 ADV, the upcoming baby adventure tourer from KTM will be available in two paint options - white and orange. Also, we wish KTM had equipped it with an LED headlamp instead of the conventional bulb-type setup.
India launch details:
Although there’s no confirmation from KTM yet, we expect the 250 Adventure to be launched in India either by the end of 2019 or during the first half of 2020. Considering that it won’t be equipped with most of the bells and whistles like the 390 ADV, we expect it to be priced at around Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 2.7 lakh.
