The recently-launched KTM RC 125 BS6 is about Rs 9,377 more expensive than the Yamaha R15 V3 BS6! So which one should you buy?
KTM has updated its entire lineup to comply with BS6 emission norms. In the process, the RC 125, as well as other Orange models, have received a considerable price hike. The KTM RC 125 BS6 is priced at Rs 1,55,277 (ex-showroom Delhi), whereas the Yamaha YZF-R15 BS6 undercuts the Austrian supersport by a whole Rs 9,377! Here’s our analysis on which one you should buy:
Buy the KTM RC 125 BS6 because….
In the RC 125 BS6, KTM has managed to make the 124.71cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine BS6-compliant without making any changes to either the power or the torque figures. It continues to produce the same 14.5PS at 9250rpm and 12Nm at 8000rpm. KTM has also updated the bike with a new colour variant, which is a sporty-looking combination of white, orange and black.
It is the most affordable faired bike from KTM, thus being a perfect entry-level faired motorcycle for KTM fans. It is also ideal for riders who prefer a slightly more comfortable riding stance than the Yamaha R15 V3.0 BS6, all the while being sporty enough to attack corners effortlessly.
Buy the Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 3.0 BS6 because….
The BS6-compliant version of the Yamaha YZF-R15 makes 18.6PS at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm at 8500rpm, which is just 0.7PS and 0.6Nm less than the BS4-compliant model. But more importantly, it is a lot more affordable than the KTM RC 125. At Rs 1,45,900, the Japanese supersport is a whole Rs 9,377 less than the KTM RC 125. Despite costing less, it offers a much more powerful 155cc motor with Variable Valve Actuation, which ensures a good balance of low-end grunt and top-end drive. It generates 4.1PS and 2.7Nm more than the baby RC. The R15 V3 BS6 also offers the safety of a dual-channel ABS as standard whereas the KTM RC 125 makes do with a single-channel ABS.
Apart from maintaining the power and torque figures and introducing new colours, there have been no changes in the KTM RC 125 BS6. Moreover, its price has gone up from Rs. 1,48,750 to Rs. 1,55,277, which is a hike of 6,527. That’s quite a lot considering there’s nothing really new in the bike. So overall, you’d be better off with the Yamaha YZF-R15 BS6 as it offers a lot more value for money than the KTM.
