The new TVS bike is likely to be called the Apache RTR 310

  • TVS is reportedly working on a second bike in partnership with BMW Motorrad.
  • It will most likely be a naked iteration of the Apache RR 310.
  • Expect TVS to launch the production bike at the 2020 Auto Expo.
  • Price-wise, expect this motorcycle to undercut the Apache RR 310.

TVS seems to have something really interesting brewing in their R&D centre. The company started off its alliance with BMW Motorrad by making two bikes for the German marque, followed by a faired motorcycle with their own branding.

Now, the Hosur-based bikemaker is reportedly working on a second TVS product in partnership with BMW Motorrad.

Speaking to Moneycontrol, KN Radhakrishnan, President, CEO & Additional Whole-Time Director, TVS Motor Company, said: “Both the BMW products are doing extremely well, and the market acceptance of these products are very good. Now [our recent] product is also doing well. We are coming up with another model. Closer to launch there, [we can share] what exactly is the model."

Considering that TVS already has a faired offering under the partnership, it makes sense for the bikemaker to bring out a naked iteration. It is likely to carry the “Apache RTR 310” moniker and the design language is expected to be a lot more muscular compared to the RTR 200 4V. Feature-wise, it may have a conventionally styled LED headlamp, which will be a lot less expensive to make than the Apache RR 310’s Bi-LED projector units. The absence of the aerodynamic fairing will help in pricing the motorcycle competitively. The new bike is also likely to chuck the clip-on handlebars for a flat and wide handlebar to better suit its streetfighter nature.

We believe the engine tuning could remain the same as the RR 310. For reference, the 312.2cc single-cylinder reverse-inclined liquid-cooled engine makes 34PS of power and 27.3Nm of torque in the RR 310. The underpinnings are likely to remain the same as the RR 310 as well, and dual-channel ABS will be standard.

Expect TVS to launch the production version at the 2020 Auto Expo, making it the brand’s most powerful naked model. We believe TVS will price the bike just under Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom), and it will go up against the KTM 250 Duke and the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer 250.
