Kawasaki 300, KTM 390s and Royal Enfield 650s. Find out which of these motorcycles offer the best bang for your buck here

There were some pleasant surprises in our previous PS to rupee reports. The 160cc commuters, though powerful, did not make the cut in the sub-Rs 1 lakh report. And in the Rs 1 lakh - Rs 2 lakh segment, the selections were vast. Now we get serious in the bang-for-buck category as the motorcycles in this price bracket are all about going fast. Now just to put this across, weight also plays a major role in the way these motorcycles perform. However, this story is about bragging rights. Which five boast the most?

Kawasaki Ninja 300

5. Kawasaki Ninja 300: Rs 7,614/PS

The oldest bike on this list, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 became a whole lot more affordable in 2018 as the Japanese manufacturer sought localisation for a few components of the motorcycle. This motorcycle has come into the spotlight again as the manufacturer has issued a recall to inspect its front master cylinder. Nevertheless, this 296cc parallel-twin motor makes 39PS of power. Not only is the Ninja 300 a supremely refined motorcycle, it is also Kawasaki’s most affordable offering in India.

KTM 390 Duke

4. KTM 390 Duke: Rs 5,701/PS

KTM has to be commended for bringing a new wave of affordable performance motorcycles to India. The 390 Duke is the brand’s flagship motorcycle in India. It might cost just Rs 4,000 more than its full-faired sibling, but you get LED lighting, a colour TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity and ride-by-wire.

KTM RC 390

3. KTM RC 390: Rs 5,609/PS

In the sub-400cc supersport game, there is nothing that comes quite close to the KTM RC 390 when in terms of offering the best balance between bang and buck. All of its rivals are costlier and only the Ninja 400 is more powerful than the RC 390. But we all know how much the Ninja 400 costs. In the last update, the RC 390 even received an upswept exhaust and ride-by-wire tech.

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650

2. Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Rs 5,567/PS

The Continental GT 535 cafe racer was one of the best handling Royal Enfield motorcycles on sale in the country. Sadly, it was not paired with an equally capable engine. So Royal Enfield replaced the 535 thumper with a 650 parallel-twin rumbler which finally gave the competent setup the drive it deserved. And thankfully, the Continental GT 650 is a lot smoother now.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

1. Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Rs 5,252/PS

Royal Enfield literally threw the gauntlet down when it launched the Interceptor 650 for Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), making it the most affordable multi-cylinder motorcycle in India. It also offers 350 more cee cees than the next most affordable parallel-twin bike, the Ninja 300. TheInterceptor 650 offers the charm of a classic motorcycle with a slightly modern heart as the 648cc parallel-twin motor gets a slipper clutch and a sixth gear, both firsts for a modern Enfield.
