Recall Announcement: Suzuki GSX-S1000F and GSX-S1000 Recalled Over Front Brake Fluid Leak Issue

Suzuki, the Japanese manufacturer is recalling its two sports bikes - 2016 GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F from the US market due to a technical glitch that has resulted in fluid leakage from the front brake calipers. In all 600 faulty units will be recalled including 489 units of GSX-S1000 that were manufactured between July 8, 2015, and August 24, 2015. Besides this, 111 units of GSX-S1000F produced between July 21 and July 27, 2015, have also been put on recall. While other units that were manufactured after these dates remain unaffected
According to the reports, the units that have been recalled have been found with a faulty seal fitted in the front brake piston cylinder. This deficient sealing can lead to brake fluid leakage that can affect the braking performance & increase the wrecking risk.

The brake fluid leak glitch was first noticed in September 2015 in the US by a dealer in the showroom. The affected braking components were then sent to Suzuki’s headquarters for testing. In October, the service engineers detected the surface treatment chemicals as the main cause and the manufacturer announced the recall of GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F superbikes in the next month. Till the mid of November, Suzuki had received almost 52 incidents the brake fluid leakage.
Suzuki has notified the owners to bring the bike to the nearest service stations and the dealers will replace the front brake calipers, free of cost.
Since these models were introduced in the US market in May 2015, there is a slight chance that few of the faulty units have been marketed in India as well. However, there are no such recall announcements made from Suzuki India till date.
Both the machines are powered through the same 999cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, inline four engine that generates a thumping power of 144 Bhp at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 105.75 NM at 9500 rpm. The engine is further mated to 6-speed gearbox. However, of the two Suzuki’s GSX-S1000F is provided with ABS option. Suzuki GSX-S1000 is priced at Rs 12.25 lakh and the Suzuki’s GSX-S1000F is priced at Rs 12.70 lakh (Both ex-showroom, Delhi).
