Suzuki celebrated Hayabusa Day, a worldwide festival for Hayabusa owners, for the first time in India on August 21
The Suzuki Hayabusa is one of the most popular cult motorcycles in the world and August 21 is celebrated as “World Hayabusa Day” in various countries. This year, the manufacturer celebrated this occasion in India as well and 8 cities of the country became part of this celebration. The dedicated day for one of the fastest motorcycles in the world was celebrated in Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad. Owners of the bike in the country rode together to commemorate the occasion and the riders were also given memorabilia to memorialise the event.
Commenting on the occasion, Satoshi Uchida, managing director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), said, “The ‘Hayabusa Day’ celebrates the passion and spirit of owning and riding this legendary motorcycle and will instil a sense of pride and exclusivity among Hayabusa owners. We intend to make this an annual tradition to promote the Big Bike Culture and the cult following of the Hayabusa among Indian riders.”
The Suzuki Hayabusa is named after one of the fastest birds in the world, the peregrine falcon. Launched as the GSX1300R in 1999, it immediately won the title of the world’s fastest production superbike with a top speed of 303 to 312kmph. After winning the title it had to face many issues like the fear of European regulatory backlash or an import ban, which led to an informal agreement among the Japanese and European manufacturers to govern the top speed at an arbitrary limit, usually 299kmph.
Hayabusa Day is observed in Japan on 23rd August, with Hayabusa owners coming together to celebrate the legendary bike that is the Suzuki GSX1300R. Through celebrating the occasion in India, the company strives to increase brand awareness and promote riding culture in India.
