Exciting as it is, we unfortunately will not be able to get our hands on this machine
Honda created a lot of buzz last week by announcing the arrival of a new 2021 CBR600RR, complete with power modes, traction control and even aerodynamic winglets. The bike also looks like a shrunken down CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, which is a great thing, and you can check it out in detailed images here.
Now, though, we must bring you some bad news. Unfortunately, the new CBR600RR will not make its way over to India. Its 599cc inline-4 motor will not be updated to meet Euro 5 or BS6 emission norms, dismissing any possibility of a launch on our shores. The bike is intended to be sold in Japan (whose emission norms are similar to Euro 4 standards) and the USA (where the Trump administration has ensured a practical free-for-all when it comes to emissions).
Even if its engine were to be updated and become Euro 5 compliant, we seriously doubt Honda would ever bring the CBR to India because of the lack of demand for hardcore supersport bikes here. The CBR would likely carry a price tag bigger than those of many 765s, 790s and even 900s, resulting in very few takers. So as much as we’d love to get our hands on this thoroughbred mean machine, we’re afraid it won’t be happening anytime soon.
