According to a report, the iconic bike will mark its return with a modern, liquid-cooled format
(Update: Hero MotoCorp has launched the all-new Karizma XMR! Check out the bike here)
The Hero Honda Karizma was, and still remains, quite an iconic bike (barring the EBR update, obviously). In order for Hero to revive the name, the new bike has to be something truly special. And it seems the engineers have cracked the code as the bike’s all set to make a comeback with a modern 210cc liquid-cooled engine.
Yes, the Karizma was one of the flag bearers of performance in the early 2000s, making a sizable 20-oddPS and 19Nm from its carburetted 223cc air-cooled single mill. In order to keep up with the times and still stay true to the Karizma legacy, Hero is apparently going all out with a slightly smaller but hopefully a more advanced mill, capable of giving modern 200-300cc bikes a good run for their money. An online report reveals that the new mill should make around 25PS and 30Nm and the engine will be mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Our one and only hope is that Hero stylists aim to keep it as true to the OG Karizma, and not jazz it up wrongly like they did with the Karizma ZMR. The bikini fairing and sporty looks were pretty futuristic for that era of the Indian biking scene.
The Karizma could be Hero’s best shot at having a crack at the small-capacity premium bikes’ segment. Once here, the upcoming Karizma will go up against the new-gen Pulsar 250s and the Suzuki Gixxer 250.
