The same names, but there’s more than meets the eye…
Scooter buyers mostly look for practicality and comfort during their city commutes rather than outright thrills on the open road. Surprisingly, although the sales seem to have gone up as compared to the same month last year, there seems to be a downturn when we consider the sales from January 2023. Here we lay it out for you, courtesy the latest sales report of the five best-selling petrol-powered scooters, from the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers.

At a glance, we can see that even the sequence of the five top-selling scooters remain unchanged. Next, as is the tradition, the Honda Activa has topped the charts, with a growth of 29.22 percent over the previous month. A small part of this could be due to Honda recently updating the Activa, with a host of segment-first features.
Runner-up TVS Jupiter experienced a miniscule dip (of 1.09 percent) as compared to January. The numbers of the Suzuki Access 125, meanwhile, dropped by a significant 12.37 percent. The TVS Ntorq 125, the other TVS scooter on the list, also showed a 44.32 percent decline. And finally, the Honda Dio underwent a noteworthy dip of 24.64 percent. Hopefully, with the introduction of updated models that will comply with the BS6 Phase 2 norms, these figures should get better.
