- Gets a larger 1160cc engine, unlike the previous-gen 1050cc engine.
- Output figures are up by 30PS and 8Nm.
- Undercuts the Kawasaki ZH2 STD variant by Rs 4.95 lakh.
The wait is finally over! Triumph has launched the Speed Triple 1200 RS in India at Rs 16,95,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has an extensive motorcycle lineup for India, and the Speed Triple 1200 RS is the brand’s most performance-focused naked bike in the country.
The Triumph Speed Triple RS carries over the signature bug-eyed LED headlights with DRLs but looks sharper than the previous model. While the earlier iteration of the Speed Triple was powered by a 1050cc engine, Triumph has housed a liquid-cooled, inline triple 1160cc motor in the Speed Triple 1200 RS developed in conjunction with the Moto2 race engine programme. It makes a whopping 180PS of power and 125Nm of torque, that’s 30PS and 8Nm more than the 1050cc engine. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Triumph has equipped the Speed Triple RS with features like five riding modes including one for the track, four levels of traction control, cornering ABS, wheelie control, bi-directional quickshifter, and keyless system.
More power calls for better and larger brakes, so the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS gets twin 320mm discs at the front with radially mounted top-spec Brembo Stylema monobloc callipers and a single 220mm disc at the rear. The bike is suspended on fully adjustable 43mm USD Öhlins NIX30 fork and Öhlins TTX36 twin tube monoshock setup. From the factory, the Speed Triple 1200 RS gets the Metzeler Racetec RR rubber. The bike weighs 10kg less than its outgoing avatar.
In the flagship hyper-naked motorcycle barrage, the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS competes against the recently launched Kawasaki ZH2 that’s priced from Rs 21.90 - 25.90 lakh. It also rivals the yet-to-be-launched BMW S 1000 R and the Ducati Streetfighter V4.
However, suppose you are looking for a bit more affordable naked motorcycle in the middleweight segment. In that case, you can check out the Kawasaki Z650. Read our review of the Kawasaki Z650 here.
