The Akula gets a big LCD screen and shares the same platform with the upcoming BMW G310 R

The TVS Akula 310 has been spotted regularly for quite some time now, testing on the roads wrapped in camouflage. The motorcycle has yet again been recently spotted testing around the TVS manufacturing unit in Hosur. It is the first fully faired motorcycle from TVS and gets a big vertically oriented display unit. The bike looks similar to the concept bike that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Akula shares the same underpinnings with the BMW G310 R.

The Akula 310 concept bike was first showcased as a racing bike but the production model will be slightly different. The bike will get a split seat and a split headlamp -- both were missing on the race spec model. The inverted front forks might also be replaced with conventional ones to cut down on costs.

The motorcycle might use the same engine that powers the BMW G310 R. It is a 313cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder motor which makes 34PS power at 9,500rpm and 28Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle might also get ABS as an optional safety feature.

Once launched, the Akula 310 will face competition from already established motorcycles, including the Yamaha R3, KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300.
