TVS-BMW made Motorcycle to Roll Out Next Year

TVS Motor Company has indicated that the first set of products under the strategic partnership with BMW Motorrad will most likely to rolled out sometime next year. It has also been confirmed that the project is on track and the partnership will introduce superbikes in the growing sub 500cc segment.
The Chairman and Managing Director of the company, Mr Venu Srinivasan stated that the first motorcycle under the project will be rolled out in the second fiscal of this year. However, the management during the second quarter conference call indicated that the product will be introduced in early 2016.
According to the SG Murali, Chief Financial Officer, TVS Motor Company “The Project is progressing as per schedule. There is absolutely no delay and the new bikes will be launched next year. We will announce the details along with our partners”.

Earlier in 2013, TVS announced their strategic partnership with BMW Motorrad to bring sub 500cc motorcycles for both domestic and overseas markets. The Indian two-wheeler company has invested 20 million Euros in the joint venture. BMW had unveiled the concept of this alliance in Brazil. A report of Motilal Oswal Securities says “We believe this tie-up would give an aspiration value to TVS products, particularly the premium ones”
As of now, TVS does not offer any product in the above-250cc segment, which is growing faster as compared to other categories. This segment comprises of two different categories of superbikes namely - Sports and Cruiser. Both the categories are flooded with numerous models available at various price points. According to the reports, India is the third biggest market for above 250cc segment with more than four lacs unit sales per year. During the first half of this year, the country witnessed total sales of 2.4 lacs in the above-250cc segment, which is 50 percent more as compared to 1.6 lacs during the first six months in the previous year.
