As its name suggests, the 5G version comes with a 5-speed gearbox, that too with individual gear position indicators
TVS Motor Company, with presence in over 80 countries, has now introduced the TVS HLX 125 5G in Tanzania.
The HLX 125 5G gets a regular commuter-ish styling with a beefy headlight cowl, fork covers, graphics on the tank and side panels, single-piece seat and a rear luggage rack. The exhaust and the alloy wheels are blacked-out. It gets three colour options: Flame Red, Midnight Black and Polyester Blue.
The TVS HLX 125 5G is powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 11.55PS at 8500rpm and 11Nm at 6500rpm. One of the biggest highlights of the bike is that it now comes with a 5-speed gearbox. The suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. It gets 130mm drum brakes at both ends.
The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres, kerb weight of 121kg, seat height of 790mm and a ground clearance of 165mm. It gets a 2.75-inch width front tyre with a 17-inch alloy wheel and 90-section rear tyre with an 18-inch alloy wheel.
In terms of features, the commuter bike gets a dual-pod analogue instrument console that displays speedometer, odometer, unique individual gear position indicators and fuel gauge readouts. The bike also gets a USB charging port and hazard lights. One interesting bit to note is that the TVS HLX 125 5G gets drum brakes at both ends.
While TVS has been proactive in offering commuter-centric and heavy-duty small-capacity bikes in other developing nations, India gets only one bike in the 125cc segment, the TVS Raider 125. While the Raider’s sales have been phenomenal, launching a more affordable 125cc commuter bike in India should go a long way in grabbing an even bigger share in the 125cc market. This will also help TVS compete against the best-selling 125cc bike in India, the Honda Shine 125.
