Check out these options if you’re looking for a trusty and affordable workhorse
The TVS XL100 might be a humble moped but it was the one that paved the way for TVS’ success in India. The moped still sells in good numbers in rural areas thanks to its sturdy body and mechanically simple and utterly reliable and frugal motor. Priced between Rs 29,990 and Rs 40,774, the XL100 makes for an economically viable transportation solution. However, these are a few other affordable alternatives you can check out:
Hero HF Deluxe ( Rs 38,900 - 39,900):
At this price range, you can opt for the HF Deluxe Kick start spoke wheels and alloy wheels variant. A more utilitarian iteration of the Splendor, the HF Deluxe uses the former’s underpinnings and powertrain. Its frugal 97.2cc motor delivers 8.36PS and 8.05Nm of torque and gets a four-speed gearbox. The HF Deluxe is known for its reliability and low running costs.
Bajaj CT 100 (Rs 33,402 - 41,837):
You could spend a bit more and opt for the top-spec CT 100, which gets an electric start option. The CT100 is a more stylish alternative to the HF Deluxe and is more comfortable thanks to its rear dual spring shock absorber setup. The electric start variant’s torque motor delivers 7.7PS and 8.24Nm and is known to be frugal as well.
Palatino Ryan (Rs 38,999):
With the Honda Cliq discontinued, there are not a lot of affordable scooters in the market. However, you can opt for electric scooters or mopeds around the price of an XL 100. The Palatino Ryan electric moped is one such example. It gets large wheels and a rack ahead of the front apron, seat and at the back. Its 250cc BLDC motor is capable of carrying a gross weight of 230kg at a top speed of 25kmph. The lead-acid battery pack offers a range of 60km and has a charging time of 6 to 8 hours.
