Simple Energy delays deliveries for its EV scooter - One, says, getting it right matters
“Evs are the future”. You must have heard this statement a dozen times. While electric cars seem to be telling a different tale in India, e-scooters have been battling troubled waters. This summer, a dozen e-scooters went up in flames. Poor battery management systems, faulty battery packs and other crucial components have been highlighted as the root cause in the recent government investigation post these unfortunate incidents. In light of these incidents, Simple Energy has officially postponed the deliveries of its much awaited ‘One’ e-scooter from July to September 2022. It states that getting it right and done safer is more critical.
The One impressed us with its credentials during its launch. Priced at Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom), the Simple Energy One is driven by a 8.5Kw motor that claims a potent peak torque of 72Nm. Powered by one fixed battery and a removable one, the 4.8kWh battery pack claims a 236km range (if ridden economically). Earlier this year, the brand decided to add one more 1.6kWh battery pack to the One, boosting its theoretical range to a claimed 300km from a single charge for a bit more money. However, Suhas Rajkumar, founder and CEO, Simple Energy, has taken to Twitter to announce that the wait for the One will be a bit longer than anticipated. Given the recent e-scooter fires, Simple One is anticipating new guidelines and certifications.
