Honda has just updated its Genio in the Indonesian market. The neo-retro scooter has received major updates and its styling elements are reminiscent of the Yamaha Fascino 125 FI Hybrid. So let's see how the Indonesian neo-retro scoot stacks up against our very own 125cc Yamaha.

Starting with the design, it’s evident that both scooters carry neo-retro styling. That said, the fascia of both the scooters look different. However, there are a few similar elements such as LED headlights and apron-mounted turn indicators. The Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid also gets an LED DRL which the Honda Genio misses out on.

The side profile of both the scooters look almost the same as they get a curvy side body panel, single-piece seat and a sleek rear grab handle. The Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid only gets a 'Fascino' badge and a few highlights on the side while the Honda Genio comes with full-fledged graphics.

The tail section of both the scooters is again curvaceous, and they feature an LED taillight. The Fascino 125 Hybrid gets rear turn indicators integrated with the tail light while the Genio gets them separately.

On the features front, the Fascino 125 Hybrid comes equipped with an idle stop/start system, a silent start, side stand engine cutoff, 21-litre under-seat storage space and a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster that can be paired to the smartphone via the Y-connect app. More importantly, it also gets a mild-hybrid system, a first in segment in India.

The Honda Genio, on the other hand, gets an idle stop/start system, an ACG motor for a silent start, apron-mounted USB charging port (right), 14-litre under-seat storage space and a fully digital dash that gets odometer, fuel gauge, eco indicator and illuminated Genio logo.

Powering the Fascino 125 Hybrid is a 125cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 8.2PS and 10.3Nm. This motor features mild-hybrid technology that claims to offer 16% better mileage than the previous model. The Honda Genio, on the other hand, draws power from a 110cc FI motor that puts out 9PS and 9.3Nm.

The ride of both the scooter is handled by a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. For braking, the Fascino 125 Hybrid uses drum brakes at both ends (for the drum variant) and disc-drum (for the disc variant). Meanwhile, the Honda Genio uses a disc-drum setup. Both the scooters also get a combined braking system (CBS).

Talking about the wheel size, the Yamaha rolls on 12-/10-inch alloy wheels whereas the Honda gets 12-inch alloys at both ends. The alloys on the Yamaha get curved spokes while the one on the Honda features a simple design.

The price of the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid ranges from Rs 73,700 (Drum-Red) to Rs 82,530 (Disc - Matte Black SPL) (ex-showroom Delhi). The Honda, on the other hand, is available in two variants, CBS and CBS-ISS. The former is priced at IDR 18,050,000 (around Rs 96,000) while the latter costs IDR 18,650,000 (around Rs 99,000) (on-road Jakarta).

Moving to the conclusion, both scooters look stylish and are offered with modern features. However, the Honda Genio is unlikely to arrive in India anytime soon. If you are looking for a 110cc scooter in India, Honda Activa 6G, Hero Maestro Edge 110, and the TVS Jupiter are a few options that you can consider. And if you’re looking for a light weight, retro-style 125cc scooter, then the Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid makes a strong case for itself.
