The dashing new colourway adds extra pizazz to the aggressive step-through
Yamaha Indonesia has a surprise for underbone enthusiasts and aspirants with a quirky new cyan colourway for the 2022 version of the MX-King, which joins the existing red and blue colours. And though a lustrous sky blue colour scheme may not make that much of an impact all on its own, the combination of cyan and black is exactly what makes this already sharp-looking bike even more stylish.
Now, we realise you’ll need a frame of reference, so here goes. For those of you thinking that the MX-King is basically a stripped-down Aerox 155, do we have news for you. First of all, while the Aerox sports a retuned version of the R14 V4’s liquid-cooled mill, the heart of the MX-King comes from the R15 V2. Why the step backwards? Well, it satisfies the criteria for 150cc underbone racing.

Next, while the Aerox, with its 15PS and 13.9Nm, isn’t at all starved for power, the MX-King, despite making the same specs, weighs just 116kg, which is not only 10kg less than the Aerox, but also the same weight as the TVS NTorq 125 Race XP! And that’s not all. While the Aerox is a CVT-equipped sports scooter, the MX-King gets a five-speed ‘box!
So let’s take stock, shall we? Yamaha Indonesia has a motorcycle ‘masquerading’ as a scooter which, despite making a smidgen less power than the newest R15, weighs just a few hearty meals more than the current crop of 125cc Indian scooters. Then, on this intensely desirable machine, they’ve added a new, bedroom poster-worthy paint scheme. And the cherry on top is that the asking price of Rp 24.96 million equates to just under Rs 1.32 lakh, or about the price of the Yamaha Aerox anyway.
Which brings me to just one question: how many of you will be queuing up with me to buy a ticket to Indonesia?
