Looking for a two-wheeler in the same budget as the small Yamaha supersport? Here are our picks
There is no disputing the role the Yamaha R15 has played in the Indian motorcycling segment. The third generation of the bike elevated the game altogether, making it the undisputed king of entry-level supersports. The R15 v3 was one of the first Yamahas to receive a BS6 update. Now prices at Rs 1,45,900 (ex-showroom Delhi), here’s what else could you get for the same amount?
Yamaha MT-15 BS6: Rs 1,39,400
Yamaha’s naked version of the R15 v3 received subtle updates with the BS6 transition. However, the MT-15 is still the same super sharp naked that could give the KTM Dukes a good run for their money. It retains the same sporty chassis and powerful 155cc liquid-cooled VVA-equipped engine like before. And with the new colour, it looks more delectable than before.
Royal Classic 350 Single-channel ABS BS6: Rs 1,57,097
For years, the choice for an affordable retro roadster was just limited to the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 and Classic 350 twins. The latter has been the company’s most popular motorcycle by miles. The motorcycle continues to exist in the BS6 era with the same trusty 346cc UCE motor, albeit with lesser power on tap now. Still, it manages to possess enough torque to keep throngs of Bulleteers hooked.
KTM 125 Duke BS6: Rs 1,38,041
With a whole host of updates brought to other Dukes, the 125 Duke BS6 didn’t get anything besides a chunky cat-con. Still it remains the most affordable KTM motorcycle in India by a considerable margin. With the same tubular steel trellis frame and high-spec components, the 125 Duke is unmatched when it comes to the riding experience in the 125cc class.
Jawa Forty Two Single-Channel ABS BS6: From Rs 1,60,300
The Jawa Forty Two was one of the first two motorcycles that revived the brand in 2018. It was first introduced as a single-channel ABS version and it still remains the most affordable Jawa on sale despite meeting BS6 emission norms. The retro-styled 293cc liquid-cooled motor produces the same 27.3PS and 28Nm as before. It is the funkier of the two motorcycles with snazzier colours and revised ergonomics.
Ather 450 Plus Upfront Pricing: Rs 1,49,000
If you want to be an early adopter of electrics, the Ather 450 Plus is the best electric scooter that we have ridden so far. It is essentially running the same specs as its predecessor the 450, but is lighter and now arrives in two other colours than the original white option. You could purchase the scooter with an upfront amount of Rs 1.49 lakh or you could also make use of Ather’s subscription plans to get your hands on the scooter.
